In light of Native American Heritage Month, Thanksgiving, and Native American Heritage Day, we want to encourage this community of bridge builders to pursue a more accurate Thanksgiving story. Does your historical telling of Thanksgiving center the Indigenous perspective? In this racialized society, we often are told stories that center whiteness when learning and reading about the first Thanksgiving. It is important we push back against that false narrative and intentionally find the voices of the marginalized, listen to them and learn from them, and be truth tellers.
As we become aware of true history, we can then become activated to equip others with the knowledge we have. Holding conversations that point people to Indigenous voices is an act of justice. Here are just a few resources you can use for your own learning journey and to share with others.
